Reinsurance recoveries

Cavell's senior executives and staff have extensive contacts with reinsurers and brokers throughout the world and have utilised these on behalf of clients to effect collections on debt, ranging in age from several months to many decades and on the most recent contracts as well as those dating back to the 1960s. These contacts have also proved important when negotiating commutation settlements on behalf of clients.

Each year, Cavell organises a Commutation Rendez-Vous in Norwich, England (June), New Jersey, USA (October) and Cologne, Germany (December) which is attended by hundreds of reinsurer representatives from around the world.

Cavell's methodology

Cavell has formulated a distinctive methodology whereby staff avoid the traditional modes of confrontation and litigation in favor of a co-operative approach based on the longstanding relationships Cavell has with reinsurers/cedants. This is one which builds trust between counter-parties and eliminates the sources of unnecessary friction, thereby promoting speedy commutations and recoveries.

In the event that a co-operative approach proves unfruitful then, with client agreement, more aggressive techniques of enforcement are applied.

Cavell's resources

Cavell is able to assign experienced commutation negotiators and reinsurance debt collectors to each client. Staff are drawn from Lloyd's, Equitas, London Market, and US companies, and have an outstanding track record.
